About me and this blog
I started running in training for the 2000 London Marathon while based out in Japan and spent years trying to shift the road marathon PB down a few notches to the exclusion of almost all else.

It stuck at 2:37, recorded in Amsterdam in 2008 when to my astonishment I won the vets race.  I've since discovered trails and much longer and crazier races which on the one hand has been humbling but on the other so massively rewarding and life-affirming that I wish I'd tried other things earlier than I did.

I've run as far as 100 miles in one go and have a long bucket list of races that I'm steadily working through while adding more at a faster rate than I can deplete them.  I use the blog so to remember the experiences instead of them turning into one long jumbled mush in my head.

I'm keenly aware that I'm lucky to be able to do this.  Being self employed and a web developer means I can work from wherever there's power and wifi. But lucky also that my body has so far let me and until it no longer does, this is what I'm going to do.
